OpenScape Voice v.7, a stand-alone software-based IP PBX, was evaluated for its inherent security resilience, without the use of external countermeasures such as UTM gateways or firewalls. The performance of the OpenScape Voice and ability to protect call processing functions when subjected to malicious exploits and attacks was impressive. Avaya Unified Communications Solution, configured for 5,000
users at multiple sites, of which 500 are contact center
agents, was evaluated by Miercom for its environmental
impact. Miercom observed the system working as a whole
and individual components as well.
Avaya Communication Manager 5.1 IP PBX platform, augmented
with Avaya Modular Messaging and Avaya Meeting Exchange
conferencing provides feature rich functions for efficient
communication while reducing costs. Telecommuting, branch office
operation and remote system management are enabled, thereby
providing a viable alternative to large office complexes and
reducing business travel with effective multi-media services.
The analysis included verification of the Avaya solution through
hands-on testing in a lab environment under moderate load and
varying network conditions. Case study site analyses of UC
systems deployed in live network environments were also
conducted in this audit. The products’ power-usages were weighed
against their performance to ascertain true energy-to-service ratio.
In substantial size IP PBX environments, endpoint devices have
the biggest draw in terms of power consumption. The Avaya IP
deskphones proved to be very power-efficient and contributed to
the Certified Green rating. The new G650 Media Gateway is
impressive, and offers high-quality unified communications,
consolidated services, superior interface density and all in a
compact energy efficient device.

Touchstone’s WinEyeQ was evaluated in early 2008 as part of Miercom’s 2008 VoIP Analysis Tool Review, an
industry-wide round-up. It was named Best-in-Test as well as Most Accurate Analysis Product.
Subsequently, Touchstone engaged Miercom to conduct a more extensive battery of tests on WinEyeQ to further demonstrate the product’s VoIP monitoring and analysis capabilities. As discussed in this report, the recent tests bolstered Miercom’s initial opinion about WinEyeQ’s performance.

3Com submitted the latest release 8.0 of its VCX Connect 100 and 200 IP telephony systems for Miercom’s annual, open competitive review of Unified Communications and IP PBX
products. Miercom examined eight UC/IP PBX products that are available for the small and medium enterprise (SME) market.
The VCX Connect 100 and 200 IP telephony systems were subjected to full multi-component test methodologies and competitive product review. The VCX solution was recognized two years ago for superior resiliency and has again achieved the unique distinction of Best Distributed Survivability of all UC SME systems tested.
