Avaya's new IP telephones win "NetWORKS As Advertised" award in independent assessment
Miercom gives Avaya 4620 IP telephones high marks for features, voice quality
BASKING RIDGE, NJ - September 25, 2002 - Avaya Inc., a leading global provider of communications networks for businesses, today announced that its new, Avaya 4620 IP Telephones have captured the "NetWORKS As Advertised" award from Miercom, an independent laboratory and consultancy that specializes in testing networking products.
Miercom gives the "NetWORKS As Advertised" award to products that achieve 70 percent or higher during a comprehensive series of competitive or private tests. Test criteria include ease of use, configuration, features, management and administration, and performance.
"The Avaya 4620 IP Telephone is a feature-rich IP device that met our stringent test criteria," said Robert J. Smithers, President of Miercom. "Overall it received high marks in the testing process and has received our 'NetWORKS as Advertised' award by demonstrating key differentiating features that IP telephony can deliver to the enterprise."
In the competitive test, the Avaya 4620 IP telephone achieved the highest marks for an extensive feature set, supporting 90 percent of the basic station features sought by Miercom. Features include a large screen graphic display with 24 on-screen call appearance/feature buttons, plus an additional fourteen fixed feature buttons. The test results also showed that the Avaya IP Telephone delivered good interactive voice quality and was among the lowest in latency ratings.
Miercom reported that the Avaya 4620 IP Telephone was "highly intuitive" in the automatic discovery of settings when physically moved from one LAN port to another and logged in at the new location. In the configuration category, the Avaya IP Telephone was found to be one of the only telephones tested that supported all three of the most prevalent, LAN-based Quality of Service (QoS) technologies, including Type of Service, DiffServ and 802.1 p.q frame tagging.
