Miercom to host SIP-based VoIP Interoperability Testing Event
PRINCETON JUNCTION, NJ - June 26, 2001 - Miercom, a leading product test center, announced today that it will conduct an open, public lab event to assess the ability of different vendors' Voice-over-IP (VoIP) products to interoperate. Specifically, the upcoming weeklong event will exercise interoperability of different vendors' SIP-based VoIP products including User Agents (software and applications, SIP phones, Proxy Agents, SIP-based Gateways, and other SIP-based VoIP gear or software. SIP - the Session Initiation Protocol - has recently emerged as a leading public-domain protocol for controlling VoIP-based phone calls over computer networks, including the Internet.
The SIP-based VoIP Interoperability Testing Lab, co-sponsored by Miercom and Network World, an award-winning weekly high-tech news magazine based in Framingham, Massachusetts, will take place the week of July 9 at Miercom's Princeton Junction, NJ-based headquarters and labs. The public event will result in an article to be published in Network World.
SIP-based VoIP testing scenarios include: Basic, Advanced and Protocol Conformance for User Agents, Proxy Servers and PSTN Gateways. Each class of product will be tested for interoperability against other products in its class. At the time of this release, companies participating in the review include: Dynamicsoft, Nuera, Pingtel, Clarent, CyberTel, Mediatrix, Cisco and TGF Linux.
"I am thrilled that Miercom has taken the technical lead in hosting this exciting event and that leaders in the industry such as Dynamicsoft, Nuera and Pingtel have committed the extra resources as reference platforms to make the event succeed," said Robert Smithers, President of Miercom. "Our engineers will be working alongside each of these vendors at our event and will witness first-hand ground-breaking advances in this technology."
Christine Burns, director of Network World's Global Test Alliance added, "Finally, we will know what the state of SIP is as the basis for VoIP Interoperability today." She continued, "Miercom will openly and thoroughly assess the products, their capabilities and the levels of interoperability achieved. This is an excellent opportunity for the vendors to exchange information among themselves about how today's leading products in this area of IP telephony compare and differ. Network World will be pleased to present the findings in the special "Convergence" issue to be published on August 27."
All participants at this event who demonstrate basic interoperability will receive exposure in the publication. Network World's coverage of this technology will include an overview article about this event and a showcase article featuring companies and their interoperable products. Currently, the following companies are also participating: Cisco, Clarent, Cybertel, Mediatrix, TFG Linux. Radcom is a test tool provider for this event.
In addition to, but independent of the event, Miercom is offering a range of testing and certification services addressing more detailed interoperability and conformance testing.
